Bonnie Jack Piano Studio

Bonnie Jack

About me:

I have been teaching piano lessons since 1995, when I was a sophomore in high school. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music (2000) and a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance (2006), both from Brigham Young University. I taught for 17 years (1999-2016) at the Art City Music Academy in Springville, Utah, where I received exceptional pedagogical mentoring from Chris and Yvonne Blonquist. I now teach private and group lessons (in person or online) from my home in Sandy, Utah. I work with students of all ages and levels. I belong to the Utah Federation of Music Clubs (UFMC) and the Utah Music Teachers Association (UMTA). I have served as President of the Sandy Chapter of UMTA, and I am currently the State AIM Chair in the UMTA.

I started piano lessons at the age of 7 with Gerald Dahling in Kaysville, Utah. From the ages of 12 to 14, I studied with Harriet Bushman in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Returning to Utah, I spent my high school years studying with Carolee Eriksson in Bountiful, who also began my pedagogy training. At BYU, I studied with Dr. Robin Hancock for my Bachelor’s Degree, and with Dr. Scott Holden for my Master’s Degree. I also studied pedagogy with Dr. Paul Pollei and Dr. Irene Peery-Fox during my years at BYU.

I have two children, and my hobbies outside of piano include photography, reading, doing projects, lifting weights, hiking, and doing puzzles and playing games with my husband and children.

Teaching Philosophy

I provide high quality piano training to serious students with involved parents. I strive to:

  • foster well-rounded musicians with superior artistry and technique
  • push my students to make continual progress and achieve excellence
  • teach problem-solving, goal-setting, focus, determination, dedication, and commitment
  • instill a love of music in my students
  • give my students the tools they need to make and enjoy music throughout their lives

I view myself as a partner to parents in helping children achieve their greatest potential, not just musically, but also in developing character and becoming the best version of themselves.
